Luizinho involved in SEZ land allotment?
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 November 2010 16:47 IST

Former industries minister Luizinho Faleiro is found to be a culprit in allotting Keri-Bhutkhanb land to Meditab Specialties, for a Special Economic Zone.
The land was initially allotted for Educational Park by the Industrial Development Corporation. But Faleiro appeared to have forced the IDC officials to divert it for SEZ in 2006.
The high court, while ordering the land back to the IDC, had also held the corporation responsible for illegally diverting the land for SEZ.
Documents however reveal that the decision to allot land for Educational Park was reversed at the behest of then industrial minister Faleiro.
The land, acquired by the state government initially for the controversial Nylon 6,6 project, has been lying vacant since the project was scrapped following massive public agitation in early ‘90s.
The content of Faleiro’s letter was yesterday exposed to the public by Prudent, a local TV channel. It clearly indicates that Faleiro was fully aware of the Education Park was proposed at the site.
The letter states: “It is understood that during earlier Govt, it was proposed to allot the said land for setting up of Educational Parks to Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) and even in the meeting of the Board of Goa-IDC it was proposed and decided to allot the said land to GEDC...”
The information reveals that Meditab had asked for 250 acres of land on 10 March 2006. Faleiro took up the matter within record time of three days and directed the IDC to hand over Keri-Bhutkhanb land to set up a pharmaceutical unit as SEZ.
Faleiro’s letter further stated: “we may direct Goa-IDC to allot the 250 acres of land at Keri to M/S Meditab Specialties Pvt Ltd to set up SEZ for Pharmaceutical on their own....This will also help Goa IDC to acquaint with the procedure to set up SEZ for other parties/units.”
Faleiro however was not available for him comments as he is out of station and not available even on his mobile phone.

If one party commits crimes or corruption- does it justify similar corruption by other party?
The spokesperson of the Congress and the BJP are exactly doing this and justifying their own corruption -pointing a finger at the corruption of the other! This deserves total condemnation!
Let every corrupt be punished -cutting across the party line! The history of the CBI in punishing the white collar corruption is very poor may be because it has been manipulated to catch the small fish and let go the big fish!
We cant expect the present day politicians to resign from their posts or to feel sorry for their corrupt action because for this to happen- the person should have some shame left in him or her! It is the people who have to be conscious to elect honest people- and not elect the same corrupt faces again and again-if the country has to be saved!

There is a martyr who gave his life opposing the Nylon 66. The land is sprinkled with his blood. God knows how many scams are really there during the short history of Goa. What happened to Goa Antibiotics? We have become a land of scams at all levels. We need Wikileaks type Tehelka journnalism but sadly those are thankless missions, the culprits go scot-free, in the end.
