Narvekar threatents, wants hold over Bardez
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 19 November 2010 19:48 IST

Former minister and Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar has threatened to launch an alternate party if he is not taken into confidence to select Congress candidates in seven Assembly segments of Bardez taluka.
He has also expressed desire to contest from newly constituted Porvorim constituency.
“Salcete is not Congress”, quipped Narvekar, while talking to Prudent, a local TV channel.
He was critical of giving more cabinet representation to Salcete taluka alone. Including chief minister Digambar Kamat, five ministers represent Salcete taluka. Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco was recently dropped. In addition, Dhargal MLA and sports minister Babu Azgaonkar also lives in Margao.
Comparatively, newly inducted tourism minister Nilkanth Halarnkar is the only Bardez-based MLA.
While hitting at the Congress leadership for not allowing him to come up, Narvekar has assured to win minimum five seats out of seven, if he is allowed to select Congress candidates.
“I don’t want to give these seats to my brother, wife or a daughter. I want neglected Congressmen to come into politics,” he said.
Narvekar also claimed that he had refused to accept the ministerial post, after he was dropped from the cabinet long ago. He was the finance minister in Kamat government and had even presented his first budget.
Regarding Porvorim, he said he plans to develop it as the most modern city of Goa.
“It could be developed as the second capital of Goa. Panaji is not more the capital”, he said.
The Assembly complex, secretariat as well as Mantralaya are housed in Porvorim now.

Yes, Mr. Narvekar, you are a senior leader with the Congress, who are against certain recent policies of the party. Let the politics be people-centric, I mean the man on the street, should be on top of your agenda.
If you follow a path different either from the Congress or any other party, if you turn a new page in Goan history, you may well succeed and most people will support you. People need a change. But please do not fall into the hackneyed path of power and greed and partiality.
