Oh God! My God!

Do you believe in God? Asked a journalist friend and before she could bat an eyelid I said, "Yes, I do".

Then started an extended inning of questions and answers. I confessed to her that though I believe in God, I have no cogent and rational reasons to explain my belief in God. "It is a matter of faith, stupid", said I.

She was startled. But before she could react, I led her along the path of God realization. I told her that I believe in the existence of God because I believe that God exists. Since I exist and the world exists with its complex structures, unfathomable secrets, awe-inspiring functions and since science has no answers, at least as of now, to the complexities of the world, I tend to imagine that there exists a super super power who generates, preserves and annihilates this Universe in an unending cycle of events.

It is also my religious belief that there exists God to whom I can turn to and surrender and pray for His blessings at every breath. And I also believe that my God is no different from the God of other Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, or of anyone professing any other religion.

I cannot explain how or in what form and at what place the God of my belief exists.

Krishna of Bhagwat Geeta had provided a vision of God to his beloved disciple Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. That vision resembled Universe with its cycles of birth and death. This God, which Krishna presented to Arjuna, had no form or shape, size or smell. It had no beginning, no end. It was Anaadi and Anant. It was simply indescribable.

Lord Krishna telling Bhagwatgita to Arjuna on Kurukshetra

One of the Upanishads narrates a story of a disciple, who undertakes a series of penances to attain God. At the end of each penance, he comes up with the description of the God realized by him and is disappointed when his Guru rejects it outright. In the end, the disciple realizes that there is no point in seeking God because he will never present himself in any form or shape, sound or smell because he is beyond all descriptions.

I think this applies to the "Father in the Heaven" and "Allah" as well and in fact to the God of every faith and religion. God of every religion and faith is equally amorphous and abstract.

As I reach this conclusion I am awestruck by its import and application. If every God is beyond imagination and description, each believer must be looking at one single abstract idea called God without realizing that God is one and only one!

Oh God! My God! I have realized God.

Have You?

We all are eagerly awaiting for the God to take incarnation because it is said that when there is rise of "Adharma", the God takes birth to destroy criminals and anti-social elements to restore the kingdom of morality, ethics, values honesty and truthfulness! Looking at today's majority of corrupt politicians and Babus, one wonders why is he waiting any longer?
