Need unqualified apology from Fr Conceissao!

Fr Conceissao Silva is no stranger to controversy and is a serial, pathological offender from his political pulpit all these years.

His latest bombshell, where he essentially says that Manohar Parrikar was punished with the scourge of cancer by a vengeful God, is so downright despicable that your jaw drops to the floor.

A few questions are then in order.

  1. Are public pronouncements by public figures from public platforms (a priest on a pulpit is a public figure) to be made with a sense of sobriety, thought, grace and in a measured manner or does anything go???
  2. Is it the teaching of the Catholic faith, that there is a “vengeful” God or is God (if SHE exists) all merciful, all compassionate and all loving???

3 .How different is Fr Conceissao sermon of vitriol and abuse different from the hate speeches made by assorted and forever angry Sadhvis, Yogis and Hindutva fanatics and some mad Mullahs who call for arms we encounter so regularly in our miserable lives these days ??

  1. Why is the BJP, which is now livid over the comments and who have filed a FIR against the priest, never angry when their cohorts regularly incite violence against communities. Why this selective outrage?? Or is this also politics as usual for the BJP??
  2. And must the church distance itself from an individual who by his utterances certainly gone against Christ's teachings??

And finally please please spare a thought for the countless cancer survivors and for those who have lost their loved ones to Cancer. They absolutely do not deserve this appalling lack of compassion by their fellow citizens, more so, if the offender is a "man of God."

I completely and utterly reject my AAP leader, Elvis Gomes, pathetic defence of this priest’s totally uncharitable remarks.

Hope better sense prevails; but then in the silly season of elections does ANY sense prevail??

Fr Conceissao requires to render an unqualified apology at the earliest to make this matter rest.

We are sufficiently polluted by coal and mine dust and garbage.

We do not need an extra dose of spiritual pollution.

Fully agree to what Dr. Oscar has expressed. A priest like Fr. Conceicao should leave priesthood or our bishop takes action before any further damage is done to our religion. Church platform cannot be allowed to be used to score political revenge.

Well said Doc this is very unbecoming of a Catholic and that to a Catholic priest to preach from the Pulpit. We should be the ones to set an example so that others follow and not do or indulge in this cauldron of hate rhetoric. The teachings of Christ are absolutely different.

Totally agree with Oscar. It's despicable how we callously utter such garbage... wether a Priest, Sadhvi or Mullah. Let's be more compassionate to our fellow human beings.

Why this Christian hate. If anyone from majority community had written this column, he would be termed a bigot and communal
