Don’t convert Vishnu into dirty political match

It is with utter dismay that we are witnessing the political football that is being played out, on deputy speaker Vishnu Wagh’s sad medical condition.

Motives are being impugned on the government, on some flimsy grounds, by election premise. And worse, the incredibly hard working cardiac team at GMC is being sought to be dragged as am accessory to the perfidy.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

To the best of my medical knowledge and speaking to doctors, Vishnu had a massive heart attack, a few months ago and was brilliantly managed and revived by my friend Dr Manjunath Desai at GMC.

This time round, after not taking the requisite rest, he had another heart attack and went into cardiac arrest.

After struggling for many minutes, the treating doctors, including Dr Manjunath, resuscitated him and got his heart ticking again.

However, his brain apparently suffered permanent hypoxic damage, something like Priyranjan Das Munshi or even Michael Schumacher, probably never to recover again.

This is a tragic but common occurrence after a cardiac arrest and no one can predict it and there's no medical treatment for the same anywhere on the planet.

The only gaffe the GMC committed was allowing the CM to update the public on Vishnu's health status from day one, when the treating doctors should have been doing that job.

Vishnu was an intrepid fighter for Goa and always said it like it is.

The least we can do is pray for him SILENTLY and not convert his medical condition into a dirty political slanging match, causing much anguish and grief to his already traumatised family.

May better sense prevail.
