Babush Rape Saga: Soap Opera or a Reality Show?

The latest in Goa's sordid and familiar tales of woe is the Babush "Sold and Raped" saga.

There will be much chest beating and moral outrage that will be vomited in print, television and internet. And all of us, "moral outragers," will go home happy that we said the right thing and defended society's eternal values of protecting a child's innocence.

What will Babush's defence be, I wonder???

He will simply go back to the "people's court". His loyal constituency, which has been fed and fattened by him, will stand by him, no matter what.

"People" terrified of another term by a terrible BJP, will see Babush as the only strong man capable of outwitting the BJP between the Zuari and Mandovi, so can this crime of his be passed off as another indiscretion, to keep him fighting in the ring for the "secular" forces in Goa?

Ditto for hard-core BJP supporters!!  A completely defanged Babush does not suit their purpose.

With the RSS now baying for their blood on the MOI issue, characters like Babush are integral to the BJP plan of confusion and splits in the non-BJP vote. And of course there is that other small urgency of bolstering Panaji's defences which surely seem to be crumbling. So could there be back room manoeuvring to make his case crumble? A weakened (not below the belt) and deferent Babush suits the BJP just fine.

Hence, despite this act being so heinously odious, there are good chances Babush will come out smelling of roses as "people" mount his defence, as 2017 looms over the horizon.

Needless to say, the "moral outragers" will not get even an ear, leave alone a vote, from the "people" who have their own political axes to grind.

Babush in effect, my friends, represents the sum of all our prejudices, the division of all our hardened political positions, the multiplication of all our anxieties and importantly the subtraction of all the honesty and integrity that defined a Goan.

Save Goa anyone???

P.S The only positive of this is that the open spaces and fields of Taleigao will be spared a "rape" for a while…

Until then, enjoy the soap opera folks unless by some God's miracle the cops really pursue those as a genuine reality show!

Man you are so incentive, soap opera, reality TV?

Remember it involves rape of a minor girl! Wonder if she was blood related to you.

This episode is neither creation of Bjp nor of Congress. Its creation of those people who have personal axe to grind with Babush. Infact both Bjp and Congress want Babush to win so that they can use him in future for setting majority.

The Courts will decide whether Babush Monserrate is innocent or guilty but the rule of law and parity must prevail at all times. Anyone involved in any crime should never be spared however high or powerful he or she be. There cannot be one yardstick for Tarun Tejpal and the Louis Berger case while another in going very soft in dealing with cases against Manohar Parrikar, Dilip Parulekar and the other law breakers connected to the BJP.

Sources not very surprisingly reveal that a lady Advocate from Taleigao who is very close to the BJP and a member of the Child Welfare Committee, was the one who allegedly coaxed and cajoled the alleged victim girl to nail Babush Monserrate. Is this a well laid trap by the saffron party that had not long ago lured and befriended the now beleaguered Santa Cruz MLA?

No wonder the common man is losing his trust and faith in the criminal and justice delivery system which has become warped as the political bosses are conveniently manipulating the affairs to their whims and fancies. Is the BJP fearing Babush Monseratte and in an attempt to rein him in, just before the elections, making this a game-plan which will play as a repeat of the Tarun Tejpal episode?
