Taming Arrogance; the Lesson of Panaji!

In the recently concluded CCP elections, the electorate of Panaji, deliberately or inadvertently, punctured quite a few egos of "tall" leaders from all sides.

First up the ruling party represented by Siddharth Kuncalienker and godfathered by Mr Manohar Parrikar despite using all the state machinery at their disposal, came a cropper, clearly losing control of the Corporation.

Panaji taught its first lesson in taming arrogance of its leaders.

Secondly, the swash buckling, self-styled, scooter-riding Robin Hood, Babush Monseratte was put on notice...

He clearly was not the Messiah for Panaji that he so grandiosely projected himself to be.

17 measly seats may be a victory, but it most emphatically was not invincibility, something Babush was desperately seeking.

Thirdly, the Congress put up another flop comedy show that was simply laughed off by the electorate.

This 70+ Senior Citizens’ Club needs some desperate remedy, before it slides into terminal dementia.

Look at the results closely however and it will tell you who the real victors are.

The actual winners are councillors like Kabir Makhija, Shubham Chodankar, Mahesh Digvekar, Rahul Lotlikar, Vaidehi Naik, Surendra Furtado and many others who worked silently and tirelessly for their constituents for the five-year period. The voter rewarded this effort.

The moral of the CCP election therefore is this: Fly high with IFFI, Lusofonia or DefExpo by all means but it’s simple; basic work on the ground that'll eventually win you the election.

Hopefully the new council will take that lesson to heart and deliver on the basics (if the venerable Sanjit Rodrigues allows them to do so, of course).

Well,it is easy to criticise!

It is an entire different matter to contest and deliver up to people's expectations

I give more brownie points to people who deliver rather than talk about lofty ideals!

As far as arrogance is concerned, we need to see in a mirror before commenting on others!

Dr. Rebello your intelligence and presentation of facts is perfect.

Also I admire your courage to ask questions about how some activists have protected Churchill.

You are indeed a great Goan and I love your articles.
